The quilt pattern known as baby blocks relies on the contrast between dark, medium and light values to create an illusion of 3-dimensionality.

I can never look at this pattern for long without the direction of the blocks appearing to move in and out of the picture plane in a disconcerting way. I want to use this as an analogy for the distortion of my childhood memories. In the monoprint project I alluded to "hidden adversity in the domestic landscape". This is an ongoing theme in my work.
